Inspired by the mythology of the past and its portrayal in the present.

The owl has long been seen as a symbol for very different reasons across time and religions. In Greek mythology, the owl became a symbol of wisdom, foresight and strategic thinking. In contrast, the Romans saw owls as omens of death. In Aotearoa, the native owl ruru is a powerful figure in Māori mythology and tradition. Said to have originated from the underworld and is strongly associated with the spirit world.

In modern times, the symbolism of the Owl varies across different media. Like the Court of Owls in the DC Comics, first appearing in Batman Volume 2 #2 in 2011. Of which portrays a shadowy elite organisation that runs Gotham City from the shadows.

What drew me towards the idea of "The Owl" was the mystery, allusiveness and intrigue associated with such an incredible creature. But also, how it sparks different feelings and emotions depending on the person. This discovery and idea became interwoven into my storytelling, and I knew this was the symbol I wanted associated with my work. One that inspires intrigue and that seeks out different opinions.
